So. I will be bringing home one very sad Saab this weekend.

And by “bringing home” I really mean, putting into storage.

Kinja'd!!!

The owner got back to me, and will be keeping this very lonely, 2-stroke, 3 cylinder, Saab station wagon for me. The rest of the cars are headed for the scrap metal pile. This is bonus for the scrappers I think, since this one is also the most deeply buried and inaccessible car in the whole lot. It’ll be in storage until I get the paperwork sorted out and finish fixing some stuff on my V4 95. Really happy about saving this old car.

get back out there, and figure out what fenders, doors, and hoods that you need to pull off of the other parts cars in order to have clean sheetmetal, without having to get out the hammers..........

A previous owner had a clever solution - they just glued vinyl over the the roof panel. I was scratching my head about it until I peaked inside and saw the roof from the inside.

if you was ever inclined to go through “all the effort” of putting a nice roof back on it, now would be THE TIME to harvest a cleaner one off of the ones in the field......

this is one of those haul offs, where the numbers of remaining cars like yours plummet..... not that this ONE guy is responsible for keeping them all alive...... but we all used to know where there were cool cars laying around, until you go to find one of them one day only to find that they all got scrapped.....

Possibly... or it’s time for one of those rollback cloth sun roofs.

I actually don’t think I plan on keeping this car long term. But I couldn’t let such a complete, rust free car go to the crusher.

And while I would love to go back - I literally do not have the time. The scrapper will be there tomorrow, and I pleaded and promised with the owner for them to keep this one so I could pick it up on the weekend.

I really want a Saab 96, but I’m worried there will be no decent drivers left by the time I get around to it. It doesn’t help that I literally never see them for sale in Canada.

Weird thing is, Saab had no Canadian dealers during the years they exported the 96. On the other hand, the V4 models are still pretty common. They’re robust cars and had a cult following from new, so survival rates are pretty high.

I applaude you for saving one of the cars!

Ohh that would explain that. The lack of Saab 96s and Monteros are my biggest issues with canadian craiglist. Also reasonably priced E28s and E30s. Always just across the border in Washington, tempting me to get a passport.....

Well I’m glad the V4s are still common, I really would like to own one someday

Oooh, two stroke Tuesday!

I’ve only once knowingly seen (and very much heard) a two stroke Saab.

Awesome! Glad you were able to work it out with the seller (scrapper?)

I promised the owner that I would absolutely have the car off their property this weekend. They were happy so long as they never have to deal with them again.
